Laura was born in St. Petersburg to a teenage mother who struggled with mental illness and addiction. As a result, Laura was entrusted to the care of her grandmother and uncle. When Laura was 11 years old she was reunited with her mother, and then shortly after placed into foster care. Eventually, Laura took custody of her little sister while parenting her own toddler. Wanting more out of life, Laura returned to school during the pandemic and is earning a certificate in child development. Laura dreams of making wakes of changes for children in foster care like herself. Through Cetera, Laura aims to dive into foster care advocacy, bridging the gap for individuals who were never made aware of the greater resources and benefits available to them through the State of Florida.
